Monument Valley Moon

Location:  Monument Valley, located in the southeastern part of Utah. It is north east of Kayenta, AZ and southwest of Mexican Hat Utah. This was taken along Highway 163  roughly:

Find the location: Copy the coordinates below. Open Google Earth, paste the coordinates into "Fly To" and click on the magnifying glass.

36° 59’ 38.81” N
110° 10’ 38.71” W

Equipment: Hasselblad C501 with 80 mm lens and 500 mm lens with 2X teleconverter.  Velvia transparency film, ISO 50. Image scanned with Minolta Dimage Scan Multi PRO at 4800 dpi.  Emulsion artifact removed.

Digital imaging/manipulation: Taken in the mid 80s, this predates Photoshop by about 5 years. It was shot as a double exposure. First with an 80 mm lens. The exposure was decreased by about 1/3 of the time. I removed the film magazine and advanced the camera to shoot the second exposure. The magazine was reattached and the moon was taken with a 500mm plus 2X teleconverter, again reducing the exposure by about 2/3. Well, that's roughly it. I took several exposures and varied the exposure times.

Notes: Waiting for the light: 30 minutes. Waiting for my butt to thaw: 6 days. Maybe next time I'll just go to the gift shop and buy a postcard.
