White Mesa Arch Morning

Location: This arch is located on Navajo land southeast of Page, AZ. From Page, go east on US 98 to Kaibeto. Take Indian Route 21 south toward Tonolea. Turn left on Indian Route 6260. You can see a plateau to the south that parallels the road. At the east end of the plateau you will see the arch. A small dirt road takes you back to a small parking area about a mile from the arch. Look at "Google Earth Community: White Mesa Arch."

Find the location: Copy the coordinates below. Open Google Earth, paste the coordinates into "Fly To" and click on the magnifying glass.

36° 28' 25.90" N
110° 58' 28.07" W

Equipment: Canon AE2 with 28-85 lens and polarizing filter. Velvia transparency film ISO 50.

Digital imaging/manipulation: Image scanned with Minolta Dimage Scan Multi PRO at 4800 dpi.  Emulsion artifact removed. Bushes color-shifted toward green and sky toward blue.

Notes: I'm not sure about access now, but when we were there you went through a wire gate and headed about a mile across the desert to the trail head. It's been our impression that if the sign on the gate says "close gate" that implies that it's OK to pass through. I can't gaurantee that the Supreme Court might not overturn that law.
