Zion - Northwest View

Location: Southwestern Utah between the Main and Kolob units of Zion National Park. This area may be viewed from the Cedar Breaks areas if you are in the right place. Kolob road heads north out of Virgin from Highway 9 and from there, I think you'll get this view. However, I don't think this will get you to the Kolob unit. You will need to get to Interstate 15 to access that.

Find the location: Copy the coordinates below. Open Google Earth, paste the coordinates into "Fly To" and click on the magnifying glass.

Equipment: EOS 1 100-300 mm lens. Velvia, ISO 50 transparency film.

Digital imaging/manipulation:  Image scanned with Minolta Dimage San Multi PRO at 4800 dpi.  Emulsion artifact removed.

Notes: You'll need to cruise around and also talk to the Park Service people, but if you head to the northwest, you can get this view. Kolob road takes you to a somewhat remote area and viewpoint but passes this along the way. As far as I'm concerned, I think this is the shot. You can see this from other areas southeast of Cedar City. I'm convinced there's a great picture here given the right time place and lighting. It does take a relatively big lens though.
