Clearing Winter Storm - Maroon Bells Wilderness Location: Siever Mountain in the Maroon Bells Wildersness. Located slightly west and about 10 miles south of Aspen Colorado. West of Aspen on Highway 82, Maroon Creek Road heads south to a parking area. The road closed in mid November when we were there several years ago. If it is open, access to the base of the mountains is easy. Find the location: Copy the coordinates below. Open Google Earth, paste the coordinates into "Fly To" and click on the magnifying glass. 39° 05' 13.32" N Equipment: Hasselblad C501 with 50 mm lens and polarizing filter. Velvia transparency film, ISO 50. Digital imaging/manipulation: Image scanned with Minolta Dimage Scan Multi PRO at 4800 dpi. Emulsion artifact removed. Notes: This picture was taken from Maroon Lake which lies at the base of the Maroon Bells. The fog was so thick that we never saw the bells. They were located directly in back of us when this picture was taken. In fact, we thought these were the Maroon Bells. We left Aspen content that we had accomplished our mission. Ignorance is bliss. Springtime is good for wildflowers but access varies with the weather so check for the opening of the road and when Springtime starts there. |
