Columbia River Sunrise

Location: Columbia River Valley, east of Portland, Oregon via Highway 30. This has taken our cumulative brain power which is stretched pretty thin. But with that, AAA.com, and Google Earth, we have decided that this was taken from the Best Western Hood River Inn. We can't remember the year, but we think that's Lewis and Clark's boat in the foreground.

Find the location: Copy the coordinates below. Open Google Earth, paste the coordinates into "Fly To" and click on the magnifying glass.

Equipment: A2E 28-85 lens, polarizing filter. Velvia transparency ISO 50.

Digital imaging/manipulation:  Image scanned with Minolta Dimage Scan Multi PRO at 4800 dpi.  Emulsion artifact removed.

Notes: Sometimes all you gotta do is get up early...and fly to Portland...and drive out to Hood River. Come to think of it, this picture cost about $2100.

This drive is a must do. You can make a loop around Mount Hood. The Highway 30 portion takes you along several falls including Multnomah. The loop then turns south at Hood River along Highway 35, passes Mount Hood on the east side, and returns to Portland via Highway 26.
