Kennicott Mine - Alaska

Location: Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, Alaska. Accessed out of Ankorage via Highway 1, we stayed in Glennallen (about 187 miles east of Ankorage). The next day we made our way south on Highway 4 to the turnout to McCarthy. As I recall it was about 60 miles on gravel road then. Check regarding lodging in McCarthy.

Equipment:  Hasselblad C501 with 50 mm lens and polarizing filter.  Velvia transparency film, ISO 20.

Digital imaging/manipulation:  Image scanned with Minolta Dimage Scan Multi PRO at 4800 dpi.  Emulsion artifact removed.

Notes: Wrangell-St. Elias is one of the largest in the U.S. National Park system. It has few roads and alot of wilderness. The Kennicott copper mine was established in the early 1900s near McCarthy Alaska. Our visit here didn't even scratch the surface.
