Lone Jeffrey Pine Generations
Location: The Lone Jeffrey Pine made famous by Ansel Adams is, sadly, no longer standing. There are other trees vying for the position. This looks like a good candidate. Sentinel Dome is well worth a visit, particularly toward sunset. Find the location: Copy the coordinates below. Open Google Earth, paste the coordinates into "Fly To" and click on the magnifying glass. 37° 43' 23.40" N Equipment: Equipment: Canon 5D Mark II with 24-105 (at 58mm) 1/160 seconds.ISO 1600. . Digital imaging/manipulation: Sharpened and color adjusted. Notes: Well, the Lone Jeffrey Pine may be gone, but you get a great view of the valley and Halfdome lights up at sunset. You leave Yosemite Valley and go south to Glacier Point Road. This is the way to Badger Pass Ski Area. The trailhead for Sentinal Dome is marked. If you want a shorter route than the trailhead, go east beyond the trailhead to about: 37° 43' 10.47" N The road curves and there is a small dirt parking area on the south side. On the other side of the road is an old fire road (gated) that takes you to the base of Sentinel Dome. It's a good route for travel after dark. I presume the Park Service doesn't mind. Check a topo map before departure. |
